Summary

We are looking for volunteers with 'social talent' and great social commitment to guide residents of our shelter.

Detailed description

We are looking for volunteers with 'social talent' and great social involvement to guide residents of our shelter during the six months that they stay with us. Our residents are homeless and have no residence papers. They often have medical or psychological problems. Most are asylum seekers who have been rejected. Every woman in the Wereldvrouwenhuis has a contact person who guides them. After a short period as a volunteer in the Wereldvrouwenhuis during one of the activities, the intention is for the volunteer to become the contact person for one of the women. †

Tasks contact person:

  • Weekly one-on-one appointments with the woman accompanying you.
  • Investigate what kind of help the women need medically and legally in the situation in which they find themselves.
  • To guide the woman in the social map of Nijmegen and support her in building a network.
  • If necessary, accompany the woman when visiting a general practitioner, pharmacy, hospital, lawyer and court.

Every 4 to 6 weeks there is a meeting between all personal counselors in which the situation of the women is discussed and tips and advice can be exchanged.

We are a small-scale volunteer organization. We regularly organize volunteer evenings on relevant themes and training. We have an enthusiastic team of volunteers.

Many of the women in our house have bad experiences with men (in their country of origin, during the flight or in the Netherlands). That is why we are looking for a female volunteer for this position.
